For the Anti-Valentine

Everywhere you look, it’s Valentine’s Day-everything.  I don’t know about you, but it makes me feel a little sick inside.  To me, it’s a constant reminder that I don’t have a special person to spoil the crap of me.  And pretty soon, there will be Facebook posts galore of flower bouquets, romantic dinners, and maybe a marriage proposal sprinkled in there somewhere.  Enough to roll your eyes and be like, “okay, future cat lady.. you win”.  But, let’s brace ourselves… we’ll get through this.

Here is what you can do to make yourself feel good about being the anti-Valentine:

  • Make an online dating profile.  Whether it’s on OKCupid, Plenty of Fish, Tinder, or Match.com.  Give it a few minutes and then read what is out there.  You will see what I mean…
  • Go on a dessert crawl in your city.  Get dessert at 2 or 3 different restaurants.  Don’t forget the wine or coffee.
  • Get your 50% off chocolate the day after Valentine’s Day.  Woohoo!
  • Be a wanderlust and go on a day trip somewhere. Or, even make a weekend out of it.  Explore what the place has to offer:  famous landmarks, unique restaurants, thrift stores, natural beauty, etc. And, take pictures.
  • Have a wine and cheese night.  Select 3 or 4 different cheeses.  Whole Foods Market has a small cheese bin in their cheese section that’s full of different cheese scraps (and it’s cheap).  And then, watch your favorite show or movie on Netflix.

And just remember, St Patrick’s Day is just around the corner…

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day? Anything special?

Being single on Valentine’s Day edition of “treat yo’self”

Confession: Sometimes, I like to take myself out on dates.  I don’t have a significant other to spend Valentine’s Day with; so I can go wherever and do whatever I want guilt-free without any disappointments.  I love it!  And, that’s what I did this weekend because I’m pretty sure that the actual Valentine’s Day weekend will be spent watching the Gilmore Girls on Netflix or something.  Who knows?!

I went to Vino & Van Gogh for a Valentine’s Day pop-up event.  I had never been to Vino & Van Gogh before, but I’d love to take a class in the near future.  Anyway,  I was the most “in love” with C Brooke Ring’s work.

Her floral paintings are so bright and cheery that it would literally be like having the sun itself dazzling inside of a room.  So pretty!

I walked out with this lovely ballerina print in hand; and, it’s already hanging on my wall.  I absolutely love it!

Then, I decided to try out a restaurant that I’ve never been to before.  Enter The Lazy Goat.  It’s a Mediterranean-themed restaurant located right by Falls Park in downtown Greenville.

I had the Duck Duck Goat pizza: duck confit, drunken goat cheese, farm egg, arugula, sour cherry vinaigrette.  It was so delicious!

After my lunch/dinner, I had the dessert special at Soby’s:  passion fruit sorbet on top of a braised peach, peach honey baklava, and Creme brûlée.  I have never seen so much of heaven on a plate before.  And, you better believe that I ate every single bite of this absolute awesomeness…

If you’re single, how are you treating yourself on Valentine’s Day?  And remember, it’s much better to be single and alone than it is being with someone and miserable.
