Heart to Art: Modern Forestry

If you’ve been following me for a bit, you may have noticed that I’m a big supporter of buying local.  There are so many talented people in the Upstate SC area that deserve attention.  I love buying things that these people have put their heart and soul into.  And, I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have my money go towards supporting a person’s craft so they can keep doing what they love to do instead of a big business.

So, I’d like to start a series called Heart to Art.  In this series, I will feature a local artist/maker and showcase their craft.

My very first Heart to Art is with Modern Forestry.  A couple weeks ago, I came across Modern Forestry’s soy candles at Urban Digs, a fabulous home decor store in Greenville that I go to frequently.  I picked up their Ylang Ylang Tea candle because it smelled so delicious.

Modern Forestry is a husband and wife team, John and Sarah Collins.  They are based in Easley, SC.  They hand pour all of their candles, which are 100% soy wax.

I scored an invite from Sarah through the magic of social media to go to Modern Forestry’s Spring Preview event tonight.  We smelled around 20 different scents and help narrow down the final scents for the upcoming spring season.

Which of these Modern Forestry scents will make the cut for Spring?
This event was so much fun! Food, coffee, and nice conversation… I got to meet and talk with some fabulous ladies and Sarah is such a sweetheart.

I picked up 4 candles: Lavender, Patchouli Teakwood, Peppermint Fields, and Red Currant Sage Tea.  The latter two are not yet released, but those were my favorites from the night.

We also got to leave with a pack of wax melts of our choosing.  I got Coffeehouse.  This will be amazing to burn in the morning for an instant pick-me-up.

Modern Forestry candles are currently sold in small shops around Greenville.  Too far away?  Check out their Etsy page here.

Thanks for reading! And, thank you Sarah for the awesome event!

Love and light,
